Counselling Courses

counselling courses

Counselling courses are available both online, the traditional method studying at a local college or university, also via correspondence courses.. This can be a great way to study from home if your work commitments will not allow you to attend classes. If you choose this route to study below is,

What to Expect From A Correspondence Course

You will receive your course usually in the form of a folder with the relevant modules

And a workbook. After completing each module you will be asked to complete any tasks, such as reading and a written assignment.

You would then post your work to the college and your tutor who was assigned to you at the beginning of your coucourse. will mark your work and post it back to you with any comments or suggestions.

In the meantime while waiting for your marked assignments to be returned you would carry on with the next module.

This method of study is becoming more popular as people find with their family and work commitments they find it difficult to fit in scheduled lessons.

This is a great way of studying for anyone who lives in rural areas or areas where transport is difficult.

Once you have decided what method of study you wish to do it is very important that you choose the right course. For Christians this could be Christian counselling course for beginners, or level one Counselling skills

A Word of Caution …… There are literally hundreds of counselling courses offered online. It is very easy to arrive at a fantastic looking website. Very professionally set up lots of information regarding their courses and how easy it is to join.

Offering monthly plans to make payment easier.

This is how it should be, however, there has been many disappointed students at the end of their courses to be awarded their certificate/diploma/degree only to find that the college they have studied with is not recognised by official governing bodies. And their qualifications are not recognised leaving them unable to progress with their studies or allow them to work in their chosen field.

You can check with elearner.com you will find a list of accredited online schools, colleges and universities also go over to chea.org to check that the online programme this will tell you if the qualification you have achieved will be officially recognised.

The most recognised counselling program in the UK is  BACP The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. Found at www.bacp.co.uk

And for A Christian Counselling Course the best resource I know of is the ACC Christian counsellors association   www.acc-uk.org/ they offer everything you need to get started and all qualification gained through these Counselling Courses are nationally recognised in the UK.

Why is it important To Enrol On A Christian Counselling Course ?

It has always been accepted within the church that counselling is a very important part of the healing ministry. The Holy Spirit himself is called “The Counsellor.  One that comes along side of us to comfort, support and gently carry us along life’s journey.

Of course he is the ultimate counsellor, but as we are here on earth we all need support and comforting.

However, it has been noted that not all counselling can be productive. And can do more harm than good. This works from both sides of the counselling process.  When you begin your training you will understand why.

peoples problems can be very complex and it has been agreed amongst leaders in the church that training is necessary and beneficial both to the person receiving counselling and the counsellor as well.

In the last few months it has become obvious that there is mounting pressure on society,  redundancy, university fees rising, the lack of finance and social housing, higher taxes, young people dropping out of college. people are at their wits end. By the time they ask for help they are usually at crisis point,  and with out at least some basic skills the whole process could be overwhelming.

With training counsellors learn the basic skills and the potential situations that could arise during a counselling session. They also have a support network to support them as they learn new skills.

most importantly it is now law that any person who counsels anyone abides by a code of ethics.  Keeps all clients details etc confidential, and is supervised this is for safeguarding both counsellor and client.
